Rules
- Submitters may not be an employee of NASA
- Submitters may not be a competition partner employee or any other party involved in the design, development, execution, or management of this challenge.
- Submitters may not be a Federal employee acting within the scope of their employment.
- Government contractors working on the same or similar projects are ineligible to participate in the Challenge.
- Funds from U.S. or foreign government organizations should not be used to directly fund the development of a solution to this Challenge.
- Submitters must reside in a Trade Agreements Act(TAA)-designated country as defined by the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) section 52.225-5: https://www.acquisition.gov/far/52.225-5
- Submitters over 18 must be eligible to receive payment under the laws of the United States.
- Submitters must agree to the Terms and Conditions outlined in the Submission Form.
- Artwork must be original and created without the use of artificial intelligence tools or resources.
- Original digital artwork is allowed but must be the sole and full creation of the participating artist.
- Artists can submit multiple entries.
Submit your entry by completing the submission form on the home page and filling in required contact information. At the end of the form, you will be prompted to upload your art as an attachment.
- Artwork should be submitted as a high-resolution image of the original artwork. NASA recommends digital artwork submissions at a minimum of 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels.
- Each file must be under 5 megabytes in size.
- Artwork must be submitted in .jpg or .png format.
If you are under 18, please have a parent or guardian submit on your behalf. Entries from artists under 18 are not eligible for prize money but may be selected.
Submissions will be evaluated against the following criteria:
- Invention: How innovative or novel is the artist's approach? (10 points total)
- Execution: How well did the artist implement their vision? (10 points total)
- Clarity: How cohesive and practicable is the artist's vision? (10 points total)
- Aesthetic: Does the artwork have a compelling and pleasing appearance? (10 points total)
- Compliance: Does the artist's approach meet requirements? (10 points total)
- Bonus points will be awarded by NASA leadership at the annual Architecture Concept Review (ACR) in November 2024.
Judging will be completed during November 2024, with winners being notified via email by December 15, 2024.
Winners over 18 years of age will receive a portion of a total prize pool of $10,000.
Winners under 18 years of age will receive another form of recognition from the agency.
When submitting artwork, you must agree to the following terms and conditions.
I certify that the submission, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material were made by the applicant indicated, and were not copied from another work, photograph, illustration or website, nor made by another. I represent that this submission does not infringe any third party intellectual property rights, nor does it contain any material that is defamatory, vulgar, or otherwise inappropriate. Further, I certify that artificial intelligence was not leveraged in the design or development of the artwork.
I grant to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), an irrevocable, paid-up, royalty-free nonexclusive worldwide license to reproduce, publish, post, link to, share, and display publicly the submission on the web or elsewhere, and a nonexclusive, nontransferable, irrevocable, paid-up license to practice or have practiced for or on its behalf, the solution throughout the world. Each Participant will retain all other intellectual property rights in their submissions, as applicable. I give permission to NASA to use, reproduce, prepare derivative works, publish, distribute copies to the public, perform publicly, and display publicly the submission, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material, including but not limited to, Applicant's name, for all purposes deemed appropriate by NASA. NASA may distribute the submission, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material through a variety of media, including but not limited to print, television, websites, or any other means. NASA may also permit a third party to exercise NASA's rights, including but not limited to the right to display or distribute the submission, including text and illustrations, and any ancillary material, in a manner NASA deems appropriate. I understand that no further compensation of any kind beyond what is described in the submission form will be paid by NASA or any of its authorized third parties to use, reproduce, prepare derivative works, publish, distribute, perform publicly and/or display publicly the submission, any ancillary material, or student information, image or voice as provided for in this agreement. I hereby unconditionally release NASA, its employees, NASA's contractors and their employees, and NASA representatives from any and all claims and demands arising out of the activities authorized under this agreement.
